the question for you. DAVID STERNLIGHT IS A MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL ON
FOREIGN RELATIONS. (pg. 176 of the Annual Report of the CFR)
His good friend Ron Brown, Secretary of Commerce, is also a member. 
Perhaps this is how they met?
